Fascicularia bicolor ssp. canaliculata soft leaves
21st December 2016
As if there wasn't enough taxonomic insanity among the Fascicularia, I have started paying
attention to the difference between the various clones in cultivation. It doesn't make things easier
but it is interesting.
This plant came from Bob Brown at Cotswold Garden Flowers, and he had a batch that had distinctive soft leaves.
Usually the plant is uncomfortably prickly but this one was almost cuddleable.
It may be a new strain, or it may be the result of micropropagation or growing conditions. Whatever the reason it was soft when I bought
it and it has stayed soft as it has got bigger.
