Ferocactus stainesii var. pilosus
24th October 2015
A small globular species that wil grow to about 30cm wide and then start to rise up in a column, reaching 2m or so
over a period of time that makes its growth almost unimportant. Mine is tiny, and will remain manageable
for another few decades (if it survives).
Quite widespread in northern Mexico and fairly variable, the only thing that will be noticed is a variation
in the colour of the spines. If mine keeps the glowing red colour into maturity I will be delighted.
In theory this variety also has some white hairs from the areoles, but they aren't yet distinctive on mine.
