Ficaria verna 'Brazen Hussey'
2nd February 2005
The most famous of the bronze leaved variants, introduced by Christopher Lloyd at Great Dixter. It wins
my (admittedly worthless) award for the best named plant of the 20th century, closely followed up by
Dick Ide's Plantago lanceolata 'Streaker'.(Oh, the 70's - how we laughed!).
Brown leaves have a rich even colour that sets off the bright yellow flowers to perfection. Unfortunately,
she is a bit of a slut, producing seedlings willy-nilly (sorry about that) that are variable in quality.
