Freesia refracta 'Alba'
16th March 2008
Modern hybrid Freesia are a delightful bunch, which is where they properly belong. For the most part they are a little too tender and a lot too floppy
to prosper in pots over the long term.
I have flirted with growing the species over the years, and I seem to be giving them another go at present. Freesia refracta comes from the southern Cape
and is basically white or cream but occasionally curdling towards yellow, with pale purple or green markings. This stock has more colour in it than
my previous seedlings, and is fairly typical for the species - the additon of the 'Alba' is pretty much irrelevant.
