Furcraea foetida 'Charisma'
31st August 2008
Many years ago I bought a tiny plant of this spectacular xerophyte under the name 'Medio-picta' (which is not a valid name), so it is good to see it again
under a more appropriate cultivar name. Furcraea foetida is one of the least hardy of the species, and this flamboyant variegated form is even less
tolerant of cold and will start to rot long before temperatures drop to freezing, so it really needs a warm winter sojourn on a windowsill. Still just about
a possibility at this size, but it will continue to grow for another metre or so before it flowers, so I may start to wish for larger windows!
