A vigorous hybrid found in the wild (probably) and named in 1891. The parentage is still a matter for conjecture. 
It has been most notable over many years for the strong scent of almonds produced by the flowers.

It has been growing well in a pot for a few years now, and I have seen others growing it outside, 
so I have planted a couple of bulbs out (and I have kept a few inside, because I would hate to lose it).
The outer segments reflex distinctively in the warmth of the greenhouse but I doubt
 I will see it happen outside.
