Geranium 'Bertie Crug'
16th September 2010
A chance seedling from Crug Farm Plants between G.papuanum and Geranium x antipodeum 'Crug Strain'.
It inherits the brownish leaf colour from Geranium sessiliflorum nigricans, the trailing habit from G.papuanum
and the shining pink flowers from G.traversii 'Elegans'.
Unfortunately, two of the parents have a reputation for tenderness, and 'Bertie Crug' is developing a reputation for being short lived.
It came through the last winter reasonably well, but is clearly going downhill now. I'm not sure if I should blame the cold, it's short
life span, or the grazing rabbits. I should rescue a piece, but I probably won't. It has been interesting,
and I'm glad I have seen the hybrid but rather like G.traversii 'Elegans', I'm not convinced it is worth a lot of bother to keep it.
