Gladiolus watsonioides

Given to me as a pot of seedlings several years ago, this is the first time that it has flowered here. It was
moved out of the Nerine house in spring and I think it is appreciating the extra water it gets among the alpines.
In its natural habitat it grows as an alpine on the mountains of Northern Tanzania and Kenya. It seems to be almost evergreen if
it is moist. For a long time I grew it in the Nerine house with a long dry season through the summer and it did not prosper.
