x Gordlinia grandiflora
30th October 2019
A hybrid between Franklinia alatamaha (seed) and Gordonia lasianthus (pollen). Pollinated by Ranney and Fantz at
North Carolina State University in 2002, nine seedlings were raised the following year. It is said to grow rapidly and form a small tree up to about 8m tall and perhaps half
as wide. The leaves are semi-evergreen and colour well in the autumn.

It has now been planted out in the garden. It has shrugged off snow and is establishing slowly. I like it but I think it will require a warmer summer than I can provide if it is to prosper.
