Habranthus tubispathus var texensis
24th August 2008
I raised these from seed sown in 2005 as H.tubispathus var texensis, and they match photo's of the genuine article, but it has to be admitted
that they are also a good match for H.tubispathus var tubispathus which is closely related and much more common in cultivation!

The variety from Texas is supposed to have clearer chrome yellow flowers, but the major distinction is geographic. The form from Texas comes from...well,
Texas and the typical variety is from the southern half of South America. It has been suggested that the Texas variety might have been introduced from
South America anyway, and not be a genuine native (though I understand they are a bit touchy about the suggestion in Texas, so I will shut up now!)
