Heloniopsis umbellata
18th June 2006
An attractive woodlander from Taiwan, and possibly the northern islands of Japan. Umbels of pinkish flowers in spring. With six petals and six stamens, it once sat securely
in the Liliaceae, but rather like a pop band that break up due to "musical differences", the lily family has had a recent bust up. Sadly, this is one of the
spin off groups that are unlikely to top the charts ever again. It is now a member of the Melianthiaceae, who's secret superpower is inconspicuousness, so don't get trapped
in any burning buildings, or you're in deep mulch!
