A wonderful plant, introduced from the Himalayas by Tony Schilling while he was at Wakehurst Place.
Flowers early in the season with startling luminous orange blooms. Most impressive for its hardiness
in the UK. Broad glaucous foliage. There has been some debate whether it is a form of H.coccineum
or H. gardnerianum or possibly even a hybrid.
Distinctive and vigorous, could only really be confused with 'Raffillii', but said to be hardier.

Shocking weather for the last days of February after a generally mild winter.
It got worse a fortnight later. |
