Despite having far too many Hemerocallis in the garden, I have an urge to add more. I try to keep it under control, but in 2007 I had a blip in self-discipline and bought a dozen from Jacques Amand. Among them was 'Tuscawilla Tigress' which has been sedate in the herbaceous border to the point of static obstinacy. This year it has gathered its wits to the point of flowering, and it's a good thing.
Raised by Hansen in 1988 it gained an Award of Merit from the American Hemerocallis Society on 1996. More significantly perhaps, thirty years after introduction it is still commercially available which is a good test of the value of a cultivar.
