Hippeastrum produce flowers of such voluptuous excess that it is difficult to imagine that it could be increased, but it is in the nature of plant
breeders to take a good idea and push it beyond a joke.
In this case the best work is being done by Japanese breeders, who have developed a range of double flowered Hippeastrum that are surely lilies beyond the reach
of gilding?
This was raised by the Miyake Nursery in Japan and distributed in 1996, and now it is going to overtake the world with scarlet dancing ranks. Take me now and
wrap me in its red embrace (or just shoot me).
