Hydrangea serrata 'Grayswood'
20th July 2013
A spectacular large shrub at its best. One of those that I grew years ago and then lost. At the time I
though it was a fairly recent introduction but it was actually grown in Victorian gardens. This year I was
given a rooted cutting and it has grown vigorously enough to flower in a pot in the Hedychium house.
The flowers are very pale, almost white but with a hint of lilac in my slightly acid soil. In alkaline conditions it
is distinctly pinkish and the old flowers darken to red.

It has grown to a very large shrub in the greenhouse and I have been forced to plant it outside. It will eventually benefit from the move
but I imagine that it will sulk for a few years to begin with.
