Hypericum 'Wilhyp' GOLDEN BEACON
28th April 2012
There have been a number of golden foliaged Hypericum in cultivation. They can be very striking!
This is a new introduction with golden leaves mottled with green. I was a little worried when I got it that
it might be unstable and revert to green but instead it has produced a number of golden and mottled seedlings
which is a different sort of problem.
Somewhere along the way H. androsaemum made its way into the garden (I did nothing to help it)
and now it could pop up almost anywhere. It is a rather itrritating weed because it rapidly produces woody stems
that are difficult to pull up. I have a feeling that GOLDEN BEACON might follow its example. It has a toe hold,
so I am probably too late to stop it.
