Hypericum kazdaghensis

14th September 2013

During the spring I planted all of my Agave into the ground in a greenhouse so that they could grow to their full magnificence, or at least as much of it as the dimensions of the greenhouse would permit. I have been very aware that they will become quite hazardous as they expand and the greenhouse is an accident waiting to happen.
That is how Hypericum kazdaghensis came to be planted. In the short window between starting planting and running out of space I ran into this new introduction from the summit of Kaz Daglari (1750m) in Turkey. It seemed to be the perfect thing for the baked soil between the Agave (geographical considerations aside) so in it went.
Now I will wait and see if it has anything to commend it among the steel grey Agave leaves or whether I will rue the day I planted it (Hypericum that are easy to love in other peoples gardens are sometimes less popular when seen at home).
