Ilex aquifolium 'Flavescens'
10th January 2010
This may or may not be the real thing, and since this picture shows it covered in snow it may not matter.
The leaves are shaded with yellow in the real thing as though it was suffering from a nutrient deficiency.
It looks rather sickly as a young plant, but I was hoping that as it matured it would develop an
interesting yellowish glow.
That hasn't been the way things have worked out. When it was young I grew it in a big pot in a poly tunnel
and it was yellow and 'interesting' in a rather jaundiced way. I planted it out where it would have
plenty of space and make a contribution as a windbreak, and since then I haven't seen so much as a yellowish leaf tip.
It has large, rather flattish leaves, but they have been green green green.
