Iris 'Holden Clough'
Archive entry 02.06.19

A strange hybrid Iris very close to I. pseudacorus in uits habit. I. chrysographes and I. foetidissima have also been implicated.
The American Iris Society encyclopedia says;
'Holden Clough', Donald Patton, registered 1971. Wide apogon hybrid of unknown origin and totally unlike I. chrysographes with which it was found growing.
Resembles both I. pseudacorus and I. foetidissima and in many respects seems intermediate between the two. Evergreen foliage in warmer climates.
Occasionally sets seed with coloured flesh outer seedcoat. Flesh of rhizome is pinkish as in I. pseudacorus.
