Iris japonica 'Purple Heart'

20th May 2006

A form from China selected by Mikinori Ogisu. The yellow mark on the falls is much reduced so the flower is a very cool mix of lavender and purple. Rather congested flower spikes, which could be a consequence of growing it under cover for the first year. The first flowers to open were spectacular, but as the season progressed they got smaller and smaller until they were hardly worthwhile.
