Kalopanax septemlobus
9th August 2018
A large tree from Japan, it makes a viciously spiny young plant. Mine was a sucker from a friends plant
and it hasd lived for far too long in a pot in the Hedychium house. I am afraid that it will not be hardy, or that it will
be a nuisance in the ground.

Life undercover finally became intolerable - the roof of the Hedychium house was being compromised.
I sawed the trunk in half and planted the stump in the garden. It seems to have established without signs of
suckers yet. There are some large trees in local gardens so I don't think hardiness will be a problem.
