Lastreopsis microsora
25th April 2009
A small fern that has been a delight all summer in the greenhouse. Finely divided fronds have remained fresh green and the rhizome has slowly spread round the pot.
Unfortunately we have had a stinker of a winter, and this New Zealand fern may well have been a casualty.
Found throughout North Island in damp lowland forest and around the coast of South Island and also occurs in eastern Australia.

Planted out during the spring while it was dormant, it did recover from this shocking state.
There is a major shake up going on among fern names at present and this has recently (2015) been moved to Parapolystichum microsorum.
In the next few years we will be able to tell if the change has been widely accepted.
