Ligustrum ovalifolium
30th July 2010
When I moved into this house, I found little hedges of Privet around every corner. The previous owners must have
spent their lives gently clipping them into tidy but irrational shapes. I removed a lot and allowed a lot to grow old and die
but I still get great billowing swathes of smelly white flowers in summer where I have overlooked them.
As a child I used to collect sprigs from the local hedges to feed my stick insects - now I live in a part of the country
where there are naturalised populations of stick insects and I have plenty to feed them with. Unfortunately the local insects
are bramble lovers, but fortunately I have plenty of those as well.
