I have just been given a crown of this beautiful large fern. I have removed a few trees from the area
and hope that there is enough moisture running through the ground for it to prosper.

The species is widespread in South America from Mexico to Argentina. It is closely related to the tree ferns
differing only in its failure to produce a trunk.
It has established well and become a thing of great beauty.

Four weeks after this picture was taken, cold winds from Siberia took it back to ground level.
