Macrozamia communis
13th October 2006
A cycad from New South Wales in Australia. Very slow growing and probably happier in a warm location, but tolerated a cold greenhouse last winter.

The big surprise is that it is still with me, although growth has been excruciatingly slow. It is clearly fairly
tolerant of low temperatures but needs high summer temperatures if it is to increase in size. It has been much happier
since I moved it from the conservatory, which is heavily shaded in summer, to a greenhouse in full sun.
I now get occasional new leaf growth rather than the previous situation of still life (spiced with the occasional poke
to check that there was still life).

The slow process of growth continues. When I look at the plant I can hardly see the change but the first picture shows it growing in a
4 inch pot and this picture shows it growing in a 15 litre bucket!
