A hybrid raised in the US National Arboretum in Washington DC in 1963, a hybrid resulting from a deliberate cross between M. liliflora 'Nigra' and M. sprengeri 'Diva'.
I planted a young one in the garden in 2004 and a decade later it is flowering reliably.

The hybrid has a reputation for making a good small tree with a straight trunk even from cuttings. It has certainly done well among the trees at the top of the garden.
