Mahonia japonica

One of the commonest species in gardens, I planted it here years ago and it has surfaced again
because I have cut some trees down to clear space.
The label also surfaced with it which was helpful. I get confused with the differences between this, M. bealei
and the coarser M.x media cultivars. Without the label it wouild just have been a Mahonia.

This seems to be the true M. japonica although I bought it as . Long lax racemes of flowers spaced rather widely on the axis.
This one produces a touch of winter colour on the rosettes which is more telling than the flowers.
