Mahonia 'Pan's Peculiar'

8th June 2014

A hybrid between M. duclouxianaand M. japonica grown and named by Nick Macer at Pan Global Plants. I bought one from him in 2014, the label says:

"There is no other Mahonia that looks like this with its relatively congested pinnate leaves arching downwards to form hummocks of foliage on the upright stems. Winter flowers are large soft-yellow and well scented similar to one of its parents. A hardy hybrid between M. duclouxiana and M.japonica that I've grown for over a decade without a name until now."

I had to chop it in half to get it out of the Hedychium house. It should be much happier outside and with luck it will make a better shaped shrub than it did in a pot.
