A number of species of Mahonia have been introduced recently with interesting chatacteristics, but some of them have drawbacks.
Mahonia siamensis has enormous leaves and large flowers but it is a little tender. Fortunately the Mahonia hybridise
with an enthusiasm that would make the bees dizzy. In this case, Mahonia japonica proves to be both easy and available
and it is to be hoped that the offspring will show the best characters of both parents.
