Maianthemum atropurpureum 'S37'

Very beautiful foliage bursting from the dormant buds in spring, the green leaves are almost pleated, with white fuzzy undersides. This has yet to flower here, so I am unable to confirm the identity.

Plants of the World online says:

"The native range of this species is China (S. Sichuan, N. Yunnan). It is a rhizomatous geophyte and grows primarily in the temperate biome."

The Flora of China ssays that it grows in:

" Forests, moist and shaded places; 1400--3000 m. S Sichuan, N Yunnan."

The Useful Temperate Plants website adds the comment:

"Maianthemum purpureum is an erect, herbaceous perennial plant that can grow from 25 - 60cm tall. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food. It is sometimes grown as an ornamental."
