Maianthemum bifolium kamtschaticum
23rd May 2010
Larger growing than the European form, but otherwise very similar. It has a rather wider distribution in China, Russia and Korea than the name
might suggest (the Kamtchatka Peninsula dangles off the end of far eastern Russia in line with the string of
Kuril Islands that run down to Japan).
For years it has grown in a big tub, but is much happier now I have planted it out. It flowers more profusely and dies back much later
. In a tub the whole thing went yellow in July and had to be put out of sight.
