This is much more like the inflorescence that S.paniculata should produce!
I got it from Chen Yi in China under the number S40, collected at 2100m asl. The Flora of China says: "Alpine coniferous forests, hillsides, river banks; 2000--3600 m. W Sichuan, NE Yunnan." Paul Christian wrote in his Rareplants catalogue in 1999: "A horizontal creeping rhizome makes a 30-40cm tall stem with very broad glossy leaves which alternate up to the terminal spike. This holds closely packed and slightly honey-fragrant star shaped flowers in a tight, candle-like elongated cluster (technically a slightly branched panicle). Easily grown in a "light woodland conditions" - well-drained, leafy or peaty soil in half shade. An attractive new introduction." |
