Massonia pustulata
Archive entry 29.11.09
6th December 2009
This was the first species I met,as an occasional occupant of the more specialised Alpine Houses. Very peculiar paired pustulate leaves,
it was many years before I saw one in flower. My plant came from Tale Valley Nurseries who seem to be developing a talent
for the unexpected and wonderful. Under natural conditions it is pollinated by gerbils although mine seems to have set seed without (to my knowledge)
the intervention of rodents.

There is something delightfully satisfying about the moment in autumn when these magnificent leaves flow up to the surface
from a seemingly empty pot. The little bud-button filled with promise in the centre is a bonus.
