Muehlenbeckia ephedroides
21st September 2012
A complicated little plant from the North Island of New Zealand. The Muehlenbeckia can be a bit vigorous,
sometimes irritatingly so although this one has been moderately restrained so far.
Complicated, because this is a hybrid between M.e. var. ephedroides and M.e. var. muricatula.
Why would anybody do such a thing. Well, I have no idea. All I can suggest is that the cultivators of strange almost
leafless stringy New Zealand woody plants (and there are plenty of them) have a unique view of the plant world.
I get a lot of pleasure from it, but it is the pleasure of a man looking at something harmless and completely
incomprehensible. Village halls that have red fire buckets filled with sand by the emergency exits.

After a long period growing in a tub I planted it out this year.
