Musa sikkimensis

A second species of banana that is showing some signs of hardiness, so I thought
I would give it a try. Unfortunately a couple of really hard winters in a row have not helped the situation.

Here it is looking its best, it didn't last. Early snow and a hard winter have killed it.

Found in Bhutan and India, this is the banana that grows at the highest altitudes, up to 2000m in the Himalayas. It tolerates low temperatures but it really needs a hot summer to recover
from winter damage. This one is a replacement for the one that died. There are mature plants growing locally that have flowered so it is just a matter of
getting it established.
