Myosotis arvensis
4th June 2012
As far as I can tell, this is Myosotis arvensis. It is a native species that
pops up in the top half of the garden wherever I disturb the ground deeply enough. It first appeared
when I cut a deep terrace into the hillside and reached the underlying rock. I don't know if I
disturbed seeds that had been lying buried for decades or if it is a species that only thrives
on the poor rocky subsoil I exposed. Whatever the reason, it appeared on the spoil heap
and it continues to thrive there without spreading into the rest of the garden.
Blue flowers are always welcome, though in this case they are tiny (my current camera
would laugh at me if I tried a picture like this now).
