Narcissus broussonetii
21st November 2010
An autumn flowering species from Morocco. Mine is scented, though there is said to be some variation.
I have never grown the species before and was given a bulb in full growth. I had it in my most protected greenhouse,
but the worst winter for years destroyed the foliage in January. I was hoping that the bulb would be safe, but investigation in the
spring showed that it had also died.
In hindsight I might have done better treating it in the same way I treat the Lachenalia, I don't think it is significantly
hardier.
Unfortunately, I rather enjoyed having it and I might have to try again.
I was told at the time that this is the tetraploid form of the species, N. b. f. grandiflorus.

In 2016 I was given another bulb in flower and it has just bloomed for a second time which indicates that my husbandry has improved marginally.
