Nerine 'Aries'
24th September 2011
A deep orange variety that would pass for red if there wasn't a postbox in the vicinity.
Bob Brown in the Cotswold Garden Flowers catalogue gives one description (2022):
"Heads of narrow-tepalled dark turkey red flowers fade a bluer red. Stout scaped, 35cm."
I don't think that this is the plant I grow.
However in 2009 he had a plant with this name described as:
"Borderline Hardy. Pure pale strong red flowers Oct-Nov, 40cm. If you think pale strong is
an oxymoron look at the pictures on the web."
If you do, you will find a plant like the one pictured here (because that's where I bought it).
Described in the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society for 1946 (p.258) as the "darkest of Nerines".
