Nerine 'Aurora'
1st November 2012
A hybrid between N. bowdenii and N. sarniensis raised by J.Rose in Oxford in 1908
and awarded an F.C.C. by the RHS in 1920. In 1951 Janaki Ammal reported that it was a triploid
(2n =33) in the Journal of the RHS.
Tony Norris describes it in his 1980 Nerine Nurseries catalogue as:
"R.H.S. First Class Certificate 1920. One of the largest and most magnificent of Nerines.
The individual floret is satin-rose colour with a silvery-lavender stripe to the centre of each petal.
Stem 2 feet or more; florets 3 inches across and flower up to 8 inches across overall.
My plant is bright orange and is not the original cultivar.
