Nerine 'Berlioz'
23rd October 2013
A short growing cultivar with flowers deeply steeped in the pure scarlet blood of N. sarniensis.
I was having one of those moments when I delude myself into thinking I might get a better picture
by dangling a white painted piece of cardboard behind it. I was right in one sense, when I tried it without
the card I missed the focus and have a lovely picture of the greenhouse with a big scarlet blob
in the middle. I also had a rather blurred picture of my own surprised face, taken by accident when
the complexity of juggling a piece of card and a camera resulted in me tripping on the pot and sitting down
rather abruptly.
Painful things, delusions.
Raised by Tony Norris and distributed through his 'Nerine Nurseries' during the 1970's and 1980's. Many of his
N.sarniensis cultivars were based on Exbury breeding stock.

A cross between 'Lady de Walden' and 'Vandertang HS' raised by Tony Norris. Much of his collection was bought by
Ken Hall of Springbank Nursery on the Isle of Wight.
In his catalogue for 2005/6, Ken Hall says:
"Dark red (Norris); A distinctive rich dark red, very free flowering with a long 18" stem. Has a slight chocolate scent."
