Oreocharis pankaiyuae

An interesting species from south Sichuan, China. I got it from Chen Yi in China under the name Tremacron aurantiacum and number GO2, the catalogue lists it as collected at 1,300m altitude. It seems to be hardy here, though it is very slow to divide.
The yellow flowers are produced in autumn. The first time I saw them, I assumed they had been bitten off by some awful creepy vermin, but they are naturally truncated.

Plants of the World online says:

"The native range of this species is China (S. Sichuan). It is a perennial and grows primarily in the temperate biome."

Plant Delights Nursery say:

"(aka: Tremacron aurantiacum) Let me guess, you've never heard of tremacron? This endemic genus of Chinese gesneriads contains only seven species. We have been thrilled at how easy Tremacron aurantiacum has been to grow in a lightly shaded rock garden...ours are growing in a well-drained but slightly moist site. The small, tight rosette of hairy, crinkled, dark green leaves makes a 2" tall x 6" wide rosette, topped in early September with 6" tall dainty flower spikes ending in small yellow flowers...very cute! Our plants don't quite match the descriptions of any of the known species, but this ID is the best we can do for now."
