Ourisia coccinea is a low, mat forming species from the Chilean Andes. It seems to prefer the gardens in northern England and Scotland to the south, where summers are too hot and dry
for it to prosper. My plant grows in the greenhouse where the watering schedule is reliable but there are a couple of places in the garden where I think it might grow. In a pot it has been slow growing, but I think
it might show a bit more vigour in the ground. It attracts greenfly and informal reports say that it is a slug-magnet. |
