The most charming species of peony native to northern Japan, it is sometimes included withing the range of variability of P. obovata. I find it smaller
and more fragile. It is very slowly failing to establish with me, and I need to find a more suitable spot for it. Unusually for a peony, I think it needs more shade than I have given it.
