The first plant is a lovely pale confection composed entirely of lust and fluff. It came to me as 'Bowl of Beauty' and it isn't, but I am hoping it will persist. I have a number of other plants in the new herbaceous border that were bought as dry rhizomes. They are slowly establish and have started to flower, albeit namelessly.
I have planted all these odd things in the new herbaceous border, mostly without names. If they all prosper then I hope the effect will be spectacular, if a bit chaotic.
The wild form of P. lactiflora has single flowers in pink or white. It is a diploid with a chromosome number 2n=10. It grows in dry, open habitats in the lowlandsa ofd central and eastern Asia, from Tibet across northern China to eastern Siberia, however it has been recorded growing at an altitude of 3,400m in Sichuan, China.
