Pelargonium sidoides Dark Flower

6th September 2013

I have been on the lookout for this for some time. It is the dark flowered form of the species that first drew attention for having (almost) black flowers. Unfortunately they are tiny in comparison to my other clone, but you can't have everything. It flowered without trouble but has been almost impossible to photograph. Autofocus on my poor little camera was not designed for pictures of small dull subjects.
I have planted the two forms next to eachother and I'm hoping for seed eventually. I may have said you can't have everything but I've never really believed it.
A widespread South African species, occurring throughout the eastern Cape, Lesotho, Free State and south and south-western Gauteng. It grows in short grassland at altitudes up to 2300m.
