Pieris japonica 'Pygmaea'

11th June 2012

A tiny selection with narrow leaves. It doesn't look like a Pieris and it doesn't have red new growth but it will eventually produce typical flowers. It has been very slow growing in a pot in the greenhouse.
Although my plant came to me is the cultivar 'Pygmaea', it is probably P. japonica f. pygmaea originally described by Maximowicz from a plant in cultivation in Japan. A similar plant was found growing wild on Mount Daisen in Japan. My plant has never flowered and grows very slowly.
