Podophyllum hexandrum

A wonderful Himalayan plant. My form has pink flowers, but they are often white. Large red fruits are supposed to be edible, but I'm afraid I'm not about to try it - it looks a little too much like an apple for Snow White, perfect and softly smooth. The fruit was packed with masses of black seeds that have germinated easily (and far too densely in the pot) so if they get through the winter dormancy, I will have plenty to plant around the place, which will be wonderful. Don't even ask me. Perhaps it's an angel with folded wings. A dear little forest sprite.

A broadly Himalayan species. Its distribution follows a band of mountains from Afghanistan in the west through the Himalays to the mountains of western China. It has recently been moved to become the only species in the genus Sinopodophyllum. In habitat it is threatened by over collection for medicinal use.
