Polystichum setiferum 'Congestum'

A very dense dwarf form for a rather special place. A rather special small place. Small and intensively managed. Small, intensive, well displayed. Visited regularly. Appreciated regularly. Visited and appreciated regularly. The sort of plant you find in one of those gardens where you walk round with the owner for an hour and twelve minutes before they offer you a cup of tea, which comes with a saucer and you have to walk and talk and appreciate and balance the empty rattling cup on the stupid saucer for another hour before you pass a fake stone Japanese lantern under a stunted Acer and can decently dump it, make your excuses and run for it.
It's a lovely little plant.

I have it planted in the herbaceous border where it makes a distinctive focal point, getting better year by year.
