An interesting fern that has grown slowly in the garden. Martin Rickard says: "'There is one cultivar of garden merit: 'Glomeratum Mullins', 15-22cm (6-9in), was found by Job Mullins, gardener to Lady Oylander, at Beaminster, Dorset in 1873. A curious form with no two fronds the same. Pinnae can be missing or crested, frond tips can be plain or crested. Despite its extraordinary variability it can make an attractive clump in the garden. Propagate by division as it does not come true from spores. Although some spores are viable I do wonder if this is properly a cultivar of P. x mantoniae: rare." |
