18th July 2015 | 2nd December 2017 | 13th August 2011 Flowering at Rosemoor. |
||
A seedling, grown by a friend in Truro. I planted it in the Agave House and it grew well but was killed in the 'beast from the east' in 2018. The Plantzafrica website says: "This is a sturdy, dense shrub, 1-4 m tall, with linear hairless leaves and fairly large oblong flowers ranging in colour from cream to deep red either during summer or winter, depending on the variant. " My plant didn't get near to flowering, though it had interesting leaves. I still hope to grow some Protea species in the Agave house - I want something softer than the prickly Agave in there - but I am going to take it slowly and hope for some mild winters. I have only seen it in flower once, a potted plant grown under cover that was brought to the Rosemoor South African Weekend. |
